Only a 30 minute drive from the University of Limerick,  Shannon Airport is the closest, with many routes and connections via London and other European sites. Dublin Airport is just over two hours from campus and is served by many international routes and connections.

Low-cost airline Ryan Air serves both Shannon and Dublin Airports from many European cities (be aware of their luggage allowance if transferring from an international flight!).

As always for international travel, we highly recommend that everyone secure travel insurance.

Please Be Aware: The Republic of Ireland is part of the European Union. Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area. You must have a national passport or national identity card to enter Ireland. If you are unsure of what you need to enter, please check here what you may requireNote for those travelling into Northern Ireland or on to Scotland and England, as they are part of the United Kingdom and no longer in the EU, you should check separately what you may require.

Should you require a VISA to visit Ireland, we are happy to assist with a letter outlining your visit and attendance at Annual Alumni Week—please email events@uwpiaa.org.

NOTE: Monday is a bank holiday in Ireland. Banks will be closed. Some shops may be closed. Public transport can operate under restricted schedules or run a Sunday service, and may be crowded, please check schedules ahead. Pubs, however will be open!

      • Look for the sign saying ‘Coach Park’.
      • Proceed straight across this open area whilst keeping to the pedestrian crossings and paying attention to traffic.
      • Turn left at the footpath. The Coach Park is located around the corner to the right, behind the Chapel.
    • To get to the Coach Park from Terminal 2
      • Make your way to Terminal 1 and follow the instructions above.

If you plan to travel in Ireland after Annual Alumni Week, and you wish to drive, we suggest renting a car for pick up at  Shannon Airport August 11th and not having it for the duration our the events—parking on campus is very limited and even at the  hotels is limited and pricey and we don’t believe you will need a car during those days.

Be careful crossing roads and streets, remember traffic travels on the left side of the road  – so look left – right & left again before you cross!
